It was the biggest, the fastest, the most opulent, the most modern. It was so unsinkable that far fewer lifeboats were stowed aboard than were needed. The Belfast built ship HMS Titanic? No— the British designed, sinking, HMS Euro System. To belabor the Titanic analogy further, the Federation of European Employers bragged on their website that the initial conversion to the Euro in 2002 was “…the largest civilian project in the history of the world.”
You can count on one hand the world leaders who said the Euro would fail and Lyndon and Helga LaRouche are notable among those few. Those who, at its inception, explained its inherent fallacies and forecast its doom were “despised and rejected”, called ludicrous radicals, and some kind of wingers, either left or right as suited the occasion.
Now, while the ship is sinking fast, its owners insist that all is fine and since it is the biggest, fastest, most opulent and most modern, it will certainly right itself. But as the water floods the decks, cancelling the birthday parties to mark its miserable decade of existence, saner heads are now facing what they should have seen before the launch. Heralded as the guarantor of peace in Europe and sold to an isolated and impoverished Irish population as an escape route from the clutches of “Perfidious Albion,” and a step towards re-unification, these claims were merely deceptions and never the truthful intention.
End the British Monetarist System—Create the Future
Her majesty’s hanger oners have kicked up a right royal fuss, hyping up the 60th year of Lizzie’s coronation. In reality it is not 60 years she’d be celebrating, but over 2000 years of an unbroken, yet transmogrified, heritage of empire; from the brutalities of ancient Rome, to Byzantium, to the Crusader Empire of the Venetians, which ended up in the swamps of Holland and then Britain as the New Venetian Party of William of Orange. It was on that isolated island that the British East India Company, now presided over by Her Royal Doge, turned itself into the British Monetarist Empire.
And it is the unconscious, yet unblinking adherence to that monetarist witchcraft which allows the Empire to rule of the passions of its silly subjects.
Take the example of Finance Minister Noonan. Late last year, following calls for a referendum by Gerry Adams and a group of cross-party parliamentarians, who warned that the proposed EU Treaty changes could lead to “a regime of unmitigated austerity for decades to come” and that the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) will subordinate Ireland’s interests in Europe to those of “the stability of the euro area as a whole”, Noonan went for a cosy little chat with Prime Minister David Cameron. Afterwards, he decreed that Ireland could indeed follow her Constitution and have a referendum, on what would actually be Lisbon III, but it would have to be a choice of execution by lethal injection or hanging; that is, a choice to stick with the dead Euro or get out of it and choose the corpse of the Pound Sterling. The people of the Republic began squabbling like wet hens over which method of execution they preferred.
This is how the Empire rules, it opts for violent repression when it has to, but much prefers the civility of governance through training and ideology. After all, it was over 200 years ago that the Americans won their revolution and entered into the brilliant Alexander Hamilton’s modern day miracle of the loaves and the fishes, turning debt into credit to build a mighty, productive, physical economy, based on the principle of what is enshrined in the Preamble of the U.S. Constitution as “the general welfare.” Yet, so has the training and propaganda of the Empire worked that this mighty system, so well known to List, Carey and Arthur Griffith as the American System, is now all but unknown. And the old rags of monetarism are thrown to the people to fight about like rabid curs.
Tossed aside and almost forgotten is the human approach to economy, the American System policy, which became the Glass-Steagall based Hamiltonian System under the great President Franklin D Roosevelt. If we want to choose the human system over the animal we need look no further than the preambles of the model U.S. Constitution and the Constitution of our own Irish Republic (to be adapted in a soon to be unified Ireland, of course.)* see footnote.
The Sovereign Nation State
The oligarchs’ controlling influences are both elaborate and subtle, and one of the ways they prey on people’s demoralization is by building up the straw man of “big government.” But, instead of allowing ourselves to be frightened into some sort of regressive, neo-feudal system of governance, we should heed the truthful and timeless advice of Franklin Delano Roosevelt when he accepted his second Presidential nomination in 1936 with these beautiful words:
“Governments can err, Presidents do make mistakes, but the immortal Dante tells us that divine justice weighs the sins of the cold-blooded and the sins of the warm-hearted in different scales. Better the occasional faults of a Government that lives in a spirit of charity than the consistent omissions of Government frozen in the ice of its own indifference.”
The wisdom in FDR’s words was recognized by JFK, another great President (and son of Ireland) repeating them while campaigning for President on September 12, 1960 in Houston, Texas.
At an earlier time, our own leaders drew inspiration from the immortal Dante, father of the modern nation state, when in 1921, Ministers of the newly formed Dail Eireann paid tribute to this “soldier and master poet” on the 600th anniversary of his death. I’m sure the current debacle of Euro-mania and the seemingly relentless, perverse drive to divest ourselves of our hard won sovereignty, would be confronted with an unflinching resolve by our founding fathers, not to mention Dante Alighieri, were they here today.
Our Cause – A Constitutional Imperative
On this past Jan 9th, Lyndon LaRouche held a Constitutional Convention entitled “Our Cause,” broadcast with the slate of LaRouche Congressional candidates (see our latest featured video.) He spoke of the elements of the unique American Constitutional System and emphasised emphatically that it is only by strict adherence to the principles enshrined in the Constitution that the United States can be pulled back from the brink of bankruptcy and destruction. The discussion was expanded to consider which other nations would follow America’s lead and act in the appropriate manner to save their people from destruction as well. Russia and China were identified as the two leading nations which have made their intentions clear by adopting the approach specified by Mr LaRouche, of a science driven development of their physical economies. As outlined in the following quote, the potential for development in the Arctic Region is now the key to rescuing the world economy as a whole, but, as Mr LaRouche explains, this can only be achieved within a credit system framework and we can expect that Russia and China will now move immediately to establish such frameworks, and hopefully India and other nations will follow suit.
“So now you have, that the Arctic, instead of looking at the middle of the Earth and looking at the bottom of the Earth, from the South Pole, we’re now looking at the North Pole area, where the ice is melting, and the greatest opportunity for the development of economy of the world is now centered! China is integral to that — China is not up north, but China has built one of these big icebreaker boats, which it’s going to use for its participation in the Arctic region. And if you look at the Earth from the standpoint of the north, from the Arctic region, and realize this whole area of the Arctic region is now open for development, it indicates where the great potential for growth on this planet is! And the United States of course, is part of it: We, with Alaska, with our relationship with our neighbor Canada; with the mainstream of the United States territory, these are areas of great potential development! And all we need, is the credit system to launch some of the projects which are needed, and which will work, which will provide the employment. So, it’s not just us, that our role in the United States, as the one nation which has a legacy, the legacy of our American Revolution — under our legacy, tied to collaboration with other nations, and that includes most of the population of the planet, we can, in our part, participate to our own benefit, in cooperation with these other nations, to solve the problems of this planet. It’s there before us. But we have to get agreement, which means Constitutional agreements, it means, we would like to have Russia adopt a credit
system, as opposed to what they’re using now. We would like to see China doing the same thing. We would like to see India considering making the same kind of reform.”
Given that these leading nations have satisfied themselves that this is the only way to proceed, we are entitled to ask: what’s holding Ireland back?
*For those who seem to have forgotten, here are the two Preambles:
