Speaking 11 June on the Sinn Féin Property Tax Repeal Bill, tabled by finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD during his party’s private member’s time in the Dáil, the Donegal South-West TD committed to the scrapping of the austerity tax on the family home if elected to government.
Deputy Doherty said:
“This tax on the family home is not part of any fair solution. It is a tax on the family home people worked hard for.
“Let’s be clear. This tax does not pay for extra services or local amenities. It is simply an extra tax on people who own a home. This is an austerity tax which is being levied on homeowners to pay off the banking debt.
